  • Kalevala

    February 28 is the Kalevala day (the Day of Finnish Culture) in Finland. Kalevala is the National Epic of Finland, the first edition published in 1835 by Elias Lönnrot. Elias Lönnrot collected Finnish folk poetry from the rune singers of Finland in 1828-1834 and compiled it into an epic poem Kalevala. read more

    When I came to this country many years ago, I was prepared for a life that would be very different from what I knew in Finland. I had studied Finnish music at Sibelius Academy and was convinced that here in San Diego I would never find an audience for the music that I loved so much. read more
